By its sweetness, this beautiful woman's bust is dated between the late Gothic and Renaissance. From the final Gothic, it receives the beautiful pictorial effect of curly hairs, and the harsh realism of the face reminiscent of the French school. From the Renaissance, it receives the modest setting made of large folds, and devoid of the rich ornaments and headdress effects of late Gothic northern school.

This bust reminds us of a Virgin of the Nativity, with its maintenance and thoughtful character.

The sculpture stands apart from the nothern schools - Flanders and southern Germany in particular, whose faces are more imbedded and stylized. The work is reminiscent of Italy but we place it in the North of France, in the entourage of Picardy and Normandy workshops so concerned with realism, under the chisel of an artist who was not under complete the influence of the Antiquity.

Wood formerly polychromed. Traces of color in the eyes. Restorations to the hair and the folds of the dress. The tip of the nose is also restored.
